Arizona’s clean energy future needs your help! SRP, Arizona’s second largest electric utility, recently announced plans to spend 1 billion dollars to build 16 new gas units at its power plant in Coolidge, Arizona. This decision could lock in decades of new fossil-fuel use, all while Arizona sits in the bull’s eye of climate change. The decision came with almost no notice and is being rushed through at the last minute. It also appears that the utility did not seriously consider other options by, for example, issuing a competitive bid for alternatives like solar, energy efficiency, and battery storage.
