SRP $1Billion Gas Plan Bad for Consumers and Environment

September 10, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Arizona’s clean energy future needs your help!  SRP, Arizona’s second largest electric utility, recently announced plans to spend 1 billion dollars to build 16 new gas units at its power plant in Coolidge, Arizona. This decision could lock in decades of new fossil-fuel use, all while Arizona sits in the bull’s eye of climate change. The decision came with almost no notice and is being rushed through at the last minute. It also appears that the utility did not seriously consider other options by, for example, issuing a competitive bid for alternatives like solar, energy efficiency, and battery storage.

A final vote will take place on Monday, September 13th and your voice matters more than ever. Please help speak up against this proposal by doing at least one of the following actions:

  • Join the protest outside SRP headquarters on Friday, September 10th from 9-11am, 1500 N Mill Ave, Tempe.
  • Use this toolkit to take action.
  • If you haven’t already, sign this petition opposing the expansion of this gas plant.
  • Send a postcard using an easy way to let the SRP Board that customers and others oppose this plan, created by our friends at Vote Solar.
  • Check out more information on why this is a bad plan, by reading Paul Hirt’s op-ed in the Arizona Capitol Times.
