This gathering will be OUTSIDE, so please dress accordingly and bring water.  If you would like to observe the 10:00 am hearing, we will be entering the building at 9:30. To go through the courthouse security you must have a REAL ID or passport.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

On May 27 we learned that the Supreme Court declined the request to consider Apache Stronghold’s case to save Oak Flat. This overrode the temporary protection that was granted by the U.S. District Court judge in Phoenix on May 9. Without that protection, the federal government could transfer the land to Resolution Copper as soon as June 16. The reaction for many of us has been disappointment, anger and grief.

It is important to know that there are two other court cases that had not advanced until recently. The San Carlos Apache Tribe and a coalition of environmental groups have each filed a lawsuit based on environmental issues. Now these two plaintiffs are asking for a Preliminary Injunction that would halt the land transfer until their court cases can be heard. Both requests for injunction will be considered in a combined hearing in the U.S. District Court in Phoenix on June 6. Phoenix-area supporters are invited to gather at the courthouse to show support for Oak Flat as the new injunction requests are heard.
