SUMMARY:Social Days of Action - Voting & Creation
DESCRIPTION:RESOURCE – Social Media Toolkit \nBackground \nAs faith-based and affiliated organizations we have a direct voice to the faith communities we serve. This year\, so many issues we care about as people of faith; caring for the Earth\, seeking peace around the world\, ensuring all are fed and housed\, are issues being debated and discussed in upcoming elections. It is critical that our faith communities mobilize to ensure all voices and votes are heard. This messaging toolkit was created in the hope of bringing greater unity across organizations and faith traditions in the shared message that voting with our faith in mind\, and ensuring others can do the same\, will be so important this election season! \nTopline Messages \n\nFor people of faith\, our faith traditions inform our vote. The morals and values we have are shaped by our faith\, and when we vote those values\, we are living into our faith.\nCaring for the Earth/Creation/our Common Home\, is a tenet of many faiths\, and as we work to address the climate crisis\, we look for elected leaders who will take bold action to care for and protect our Earth now and for generations to come.\nOur democracy can only truly represent its people\, if everyone has the opportunity to vote and have their voice heard. People of faith are critical to ensuring all those in our communities and congregations can cast their vote.\n\nAction Steps \nTo use this messaging guide\, we hope that you will: \n\nUse the sample social media and graphics to promote this messaging to your networks\, \nJoin us in two days of action on 9/24/2024  and 10/22/2024\, where we will lift up our common faith voices in support of voter mobilization for people of faith\,\nLike\, share\, and lift up the posts and participation of all our partners to show unity and community in these efforts!

SUMMARY:THE CLIMATE OF COMMUNITY
DESCRIPTION:November 29\, 2021: THE CLIMATE OF COMMUNITY  – Brian Kirbis\,  A Community Tea Ceremony\, Theasophie \nFor our last “Weather Report\,” Tea Master Brian Kirbis who has opened each conversation with a tea pouring to set a tone of well being and attention\,  on this final session\, he will take us through a formal tea ceremony.  As a global community online\, we will be able to sit and sip in a collective silence and hold space together as we contemplate all we have heard and taken into our minds and hearts as a community of care.  Through this gesture of generosity and grace\, Brian will close our gathering witha meditation for peace and conscious action on behalf of this place we call home\, Earth.\nZoom Registration Link \n\nTerry Tempest Williams (author and Harvard Divinity School writer-in-residence)\, Charles M. Stang (director of the Center for the Study of World Religions at Harvard Divinity School)\, and Dr. Sam Myers (Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health principal research scientist and Planetary Health Alliance director) have launched The Constellation Project. The Constellation Project — a collaboration between the Harvard Divinity School\, the Planetary Health Alliance\, and the Center for the Study of World Religions—explores the spiritual crisis that underlies the ecological and public health crises associated with destruction of Earth’s natural systems. How do we share news stories about our relationship to each other and the natural world that could help set us on a different path? The Constellation Project aims to feature faith leaders bringing science into their sermons; scientists giving ‘reverence for life’ alongside their analyses; and scholars and students finding a place for their spiritual life. \nThis series is a Constellation Project in partnership with the Center of the Study of World Religions\, Religion & Public Life\, and The Planetary Health Alliance. Brian Kirbis of Theasophia Teas will open each conversation with Tea. Each conversation will begin at 7:00 p.m. EST and end at 8:30 p.m. virtually conducted by Terry Tempest Williams\, writer-in-residence at the Harvard Divinity School. \nhttps://www.planetaryhealthalliance.org/the-constellation-project

SUMMARY:Tikun Olam- To Heal the World...
DESCRIPTION:In Hebrew\, “Tikun Olam” means “to heal the world.” And that’s exactly what Ben Lesser is trying to do.\nHe speaks to people in prison and teenagers growing up in gang-ridden neighborhoods; and he tells them his story. He teaches them the horrors of the Holocaust\, of Auschwitz\, of losing parents\, two brothers and a sister in the massacre. And he shows them how far he has come: how he’s achieved success in America and built a loving family who brings him great joy. He shows them how by choosing love\, he overcame the worst of circumstances. And he shows them\, that they\, too\, have a choice. \nStudents (7th – 12th grade) are invited to a special presentation at 2:00 pm. The Adult presentation begins at 5:00 pm. \n Ben Lesser\, https://www.zachorfoundation.org/

SUMMARY:On Food and Faith: Ministry in the Time of Climate Change...
DESCRIPTION:Methodist Theological School in Ohio (MTSO) – Delaware\, OH \n“The soil is the great connector of lives\, the source and destination of all. It is the healer and restorer and resurrector\, by which disease passes into health\, age into youth\, death into life. Without proper care for it we can have no community\, because without proper care for it we can have no life.” \nWendell Berry\, The Unsettling of America: Culture and Agriculture \nTechnological advances in the 20th and the 21st century offer many American consumers easy access to cheap and abundant food\, much of which is traced to supply and labor chains around the world. The same advances have resulted in the depletion of soils\, the overuse of fertilizers\, herbicides\, and pesticides\, greenhouse gas pollution\, as well as increasing obesity and other food related health issues. And within this system\, millions in the U.S. and billions more across the globe go hungry each day. Food deserts persist across urban and rural America\, and upwards of 41 million Americans are food insecure\, 13 million of whom are children. This system keeps externalities hidden\, supply high\, and prices low affecting the long term health of soils\, water\, human beings and wildlife.\nThis year’s conference will teach faith leaders how our current food system is contributing to the climate crisis\, explore the impact climate change is having on farming and food security\, and help empower attendees to take action on these issues in a way that aligns with their deepest values. \nThe training is hosted by the Center for Earth Ethics\, Methodist Theological School in Ohio (MTSO)\, and The Climate Reality Project. It will take place at MTSO May 30th-June 1. \nApplications:\nApplications are open for the 2019 program. Application deadline is March 29\, 2019. Applicants will be notified of decisions by April 30\, 2019. Click here to submit an application.\nTravel and Accommodations:\nFor information about travel and local accommodations\, please click here.\nQuestions:\nPlease contact: Genie Cooper

SUMMARY:Self-Care for the Activist Soul
DESCRIPTION:Despite deep passion for ecological activism\, many of us working to address climate change and other ecological issues often face burn out. \nThis 2 hour workshop will draw on Buddhist mindfulness and other spiritual practices in order to bring healing to our souls and energy to our activism. \nThis is an interfaith gathering; people of all faith traditions and no faith tradition are welcome to attend. The only requirement is that you perceive climate change to be a matter of spiritual and/or religious importance. \nWe join together in a spirit of open-heartedness\, and a shared sense of concern for planetary well-being\, recognizing that ecological instability threatens all beings on earth. \nRSVP via Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/730106520475108/ \nSnacks will be provided.
