SUMMARY:Social Days of Action - Voting & Creation
DESCRIPTION:RESOURCE – Social Media Toolkit \nBackground \nAs faith-based and affiliated organizations we have a direct voice to the faith communities we serve. This year\, so many issues we care about as people of faith; caring for the Earth\, seeking peace around the world\, ensuring all are fed and housed\, are issues being debated and discussed in upcoming elections. It is critical that our faith communities mobilize to ensure all voices and votes are heard. This messaging toolkit was created in the hope of bringing greater unity across organizations and faith traditions in the shared message that voting with our faith in mind\, and ensuring others can do the same\, will be so important this election season! \nTopline Messages \n\nFor people of faith\, our faith traditions inform our vote. The morals and values we have are shaped by our faith\, and when we vote those values\, we are living into our faith.\nCaring for the Earth/Creation/our Common Home\, is a tenet of many faiths\, and as we work to address the climate crisis\, we look for elected leaders who will take bold action to care for and protect our Earth now and for generations to come.\nOur democracy can only truly represent its people\, if everyone has the opportunity to vote and have their voice heard. People of faith are critical to ensuring all those in our communities and congregations can cast their vote.\n\nAction Steps \nTo use this messaging guide\, we hope that you will: \n\nUse the sample social media and graphics to promote this messaging to your networks\, \nJoin us in two days of action on 9/24/2024  and 10/22/2024\, where we will lift up our common faith voices in support of voter mobilization for people of faith\,\nLike\, share\, and lift up the posts and participation of all our partners to show unity and community in these efforts!

SUMMARY:Our Vote. Our Democracy.
DESCRIPTION:Join Interfaith Power & Light (IPL) and League of Conservation Voters Education Fund (LCVEF) for a special National Voter Registration Day webinar. \nUsing our voices to fulfill our civic duty and vote in every election makes a difference in our communities – and our world. Threats to democracy and the environment are intertwined. We cannot effectively address the climate crisis\, advance environmental justice and protect our Sacred Earth without advocating for a strong democracy.  All human beings have inherent dignity and worth. Therefore\, all Americans should have equal access to the ballot box. \nThe Election Protection Coalition’s Hannah Walker will join us to talk about ways to protect democracy before and during Election Day by providing an overview of the Election Protection Hotline (866-OUR-VOTE) and its sister language lines that any voter can use. Attendees will also learn how they can help other voters in their community by becoming a poll monitor on Election Day in their community. \nMelanie Beikman from Arizona Interfaith Power & Light and Luther Hemby from Power the Vote NC will also share stories about the real-world impacts of voting in their communities and any challenges they face in the process.

Stang (director of the Center for the Study of World Religions at Harvard Divinity School)\, and Dr. Sam Myers (Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health principal research scientist and Planetary Health Alliance director) have launched The Constellation Project. The Constellation Project — a collaboration between the Harvard Divinity School\, the Planetary Health Alliance\, and the Center for the Study of World Religions—explores the spiritual crisis that underlies the ecological and public health crises associated with destruction of Earth’s natural systems. How do we share news stories about our relationship to each other and the natural world that could help set us on a different path? The Constellation Project aims to feature faith leaders bringing science into their sermons; scientists giving ‘reverence for life’ alongside their analyses; and scholars and students finding a place for their spiritual life. \nThis series is a Constellation Project in partnership with the Center of the Study of World Religions\, Religion & Public Life\, and The Planetary Health Alliance. Brian Kirbis of Theasophia Teas will open each conversation with Tea. SUMMARY:THE CLIMATE OF THE FUTURE
DESCRIPTION:November 22\, 2021: THE CLIMATE OF THE FUTURE  – Kim Stanley Robinson\, Writer\, The Ministry for the Future (2020) \nKim Stanley Robinson has written a science fiction thriller on climate collapse in 2025 that reads as hard-edge journalism.  With short chapters written from the perspectives of a myriad of characters\, Robinson looks at climate change through lens of a kaleidoscope.  With each turn of his wrist\, we see another point view brought forward with imagination and a pragmatic visions on what must be done in order for us to survive.  Christian Holub writes “Robinson lays a blueprint for fighting climate change.” This may be one of the most important books published in the last two decades.  Bill McKibben said in his review of “The Ministry For The Future\,” in the New York Review of Books\, “This is not science fiction…..”  With questions ranging from what the end of capitalism might look like to surviving the end of the world\, Kim Stanley Robinson gives us a possible path to move forward with faith in what we can create together. \nRegister here: https://harvard.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_Ki9SObPISlWvz9kaCDOTVA \n\nTerry Tempest Williams (author and Harvard Divinity School writer-in-residence)\, Charles M. SUMMARY:THE CLIMATE OF ATTENTION
DESCRIPTION:November 15\, 2021: THE CLIMATE OF ATTENTION  –  Elizabeth Kolbert\, staff writer for The New Yorker\, Under White Sky: The Nature of the Future (2021) \nNo one has covered the climate crisis as deeply and as thoughtfully as Elizabeth Kolbert. From Field Notes From A Catastrophe (2007) to her Pulitzer-prize winning book The Sixth Extinction (2016) to her most recent book\, Under The White Sky “a book about people trying to solve problems caused by people trying to solve problems” that discusses what “a good Anthropocene” might look like from managing fish in the Midwest to including geo-engineering the atmosphere that will turn our blue sky white. Kolbert is a brilliant writer and an impeccable journalist writing from the front lines of climate change. Rolling Stone Magazine writes\, “To be a well-informed citizen of Planet Earth\, you need to read Elizabeth Kolbert.” This will be an illuminating conversation about where we find ourselves now and in the future depending on what choices we choose to make and the actions we are willing or not willing to take on behalf of a liveable future. \nRegister here: https://harvard.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_hNyYCudFRHeMVmtSxThn1A \n\nTerry Tempest Williams (author and Harvard Divinity School writer-in-residence)\, Charles M. SUMMARY:THE CLIMATE OF GRIEF
DESCRIPTION:Poet Victoria Chang writes in her New York Times Notable Book of 2020\, OBIT “I always knew that grief was something I could smell. But I didn’t know that it’s not actually a noun but a verb. That it moves.” After the deaths of her parents\, she refused to write elegies\, instead she wrote poetic obituaries of the beautiful\, broken world that surrounded – Many see them as love letter. How does poetry illuminate this time of uncertainty. What we thought was a pause is now a place – grief is part of this place.  How do we embrace grief and not look away  from all that is breaking our hearts.  “Give sorrow words\,” Chang writes and she does. \nRegister here: https://harvard.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_BdGi-JXVSDe8RpzNonMLqQ \n\nTerry Tempest Williams (author and Harvard Divinity School writer-in-residence)\, Charles M. SUMMARY:Tikun Olam- To Heal the World...
DESCRIPTION:In Hebrew\, “Tikun Olam” means “to heal the world.” And that’s exactly what Ben Lesser is trying to do.\nHe speaks to people in prison and teenagers growing up in gang-ridden neighborhoods; and he tells them his story. He teaches them the horrors of the Holocaust\, of Auschwitz\, of losing parents\, two brothers and a sister in the massacre. And he shows them how far he has come: how he’s achieved success in America and built a loving family who brings him great joy. He shows them how by choosing love\, he overcame the worst of circumstances. And he shows them\, that they\, too\, have a choice. \nStudents (7th – 12th grade) are invited to a special presentation at 2:00 pm. SUMMARY:On Food and Faith: Ministry in the Time of Climate Change...
DESCRIPTION:Methodist Theological School in Ohio (MTSO) – Delaware\, OH \n“The soil is the great connector of lives\, the source and destination of all. It is the healer and restorer and resurrector\, by which disease passes into health\, age into youth\, death into life. Without proper care for it we can have no community\, because without proper care for it we can have no life.” \nWendell Berry\, The Unsettling of America: Culture and Agriculture \nTechnological advances in the 20th and the 21st century offer many American consumers easy access to cheap and abundant food\, much of which is traced to supply and labor chains around the world. The same advances have resulted in the depletion of soils\, the overuse of fertilizers\, herbicides\, and pesticides\, greenhouse gas pollution\, as well as increasing obesity and other food related health issues. And within this system\, millions in the U.S. and billions more across the globe go hungry each day. Food deserts persist across urban and rural America\, and upwards of 41 million Americans are food insecure\, 13 million of whom are children. This system keeps externalities hidden\, supply high\, and prices low affecting the long term health of soils\, water\, human beings and wildlife.\nThis year’s conference will teach faith leaders how our current food system is contributing to the climate crisis\, explore the impact climate change is having on farming and food security\, and help empower attendees to take action on these issues in a way that aligns with their deepest values. \nThe training is hosted by the Center for Earth Ethics\, Methodist Theological School in Ohio (MTSO)\, and The Climate Reality Project. It will take place at MTSO May 30th-June 1. \nApplications:\nApplications are open for the 2019 program. Application deadline is March 29\, 2019. Applicants will be notified of decisions by April 30\, 2019.
