SUMMARY:Earth Day Vigil @ the Capitol
DESCRIPTION:This Earth Day\, we honor Mother Earth by grieving. Join the community on April 22nd at 7:15 PM at the Arizona Capitol for a candlelight vigil to recognize the loss of environmental protections\, reflect and connect with others through reflective activities\, and come to terms with our current situation so we can move forward confidently together. \nPlease RSVP Here\nActivities include guided meditation\, paper crane folding\, storytelling\, and poetry-writing. Attendees are invited to bring a candle\, a picnic blanket or chair\, something to write with\, and an offering for a collective vigil display. \nThe fight for climate justice has felt like an uphill\, and it’s exhausting. This is a chance to acknowledge the toll this fight has had on our communities and rebuild our own individual resilience by paying our respects to our planet and connecting with organizations and activists. \nYou cannot grieve what you do not love. All are welcome. \nThis event is co-hosted by your favorite climate organizations\, such as Poder LatinX\, Por la Tierra-Por la Cultura\, Arizona Interfaith Power & Light\, Arizona Faith Network\, An Ecogrief Collective\, Sierra Club\, Arizona Youth Climate Coalition\, and Sunrise Movement. \nNote that because the Capitol buildings will be closed\, we will not have access to restrooms and visibility may be low. Please take necessary precautions. \n \n

SUMMARY:Decolonizing Our Activism: The 7th Fire – How to be a Good Ally
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE \n\n\n\nIn this interactive workshop\, Sweetwater Nannauck (Tlingit\, Haida\, Tsimshian) will explain how working with Native Americans toward social and environmental justice involves letting go of and dismantling colonial cycles of oppression. We’ll explore Indigenous resistance that is based on tradition and culture\, learn what it means to be a good ally and respectfully attend Native events and actions\, and reflect on how to recognize and intervene in ‘Colonial Moments’. Sweetwater offers an understanding of how culture and traditions are healing\, build community\, and provide a positive expression of reclaiming and expressing Indigenous knowledge\, as well as practical ways to support Indigenous-led work and activism in the community.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSweetwater is the Director of Idle No More Washington. She advocates for the protection of the fragile environment of the Northwest Coast\, for tribal sovereignty rights\, and the traditional way of life of Native people.
