SUMMARY:THE CLIMATE OF RELATIONSHIPS & INTERSECTIONALITY
DESCRIPTION:THE CLIMATE OF RELATIONSHIPS & INTERSECTIONALITY  Morgan Curtis\, Climate Activist\, HDS Student\, MDiv ’24; Brontë Velez\, Black-latinx transdisciplinary artist \nMorgan Curtis and Brontê Velez will be discussing the intersectionality of race\, class\, gender\, and climate collapse and how seeing the world whole through the lens of relationships creates communities of care rather than communities of conflict. They will discuss what reparations might look like on behalf of racial justice and justice for the Earth; and why it is critical to find an intergenerational dialogue\, diverse and dynamic that calls for a global paradigm shift.  With urgent\, contemplative and imaginative voices\, Curtis and Velez are women of consequence and action who walk their talk in the name of radical evolutionary change.  \nRegister here: https://harvard.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_3PxblQHoTau6lThkdayoHA \n\nTerry Tempest Williams (author and Harvard Divinity School writer-in-residence)\, Charles M. Stang (director of the Center for the Study of World Religions at Harvard Divinity School)\, and Dr. Sam Myers (Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health principal research scientist and Planetary Health Alliance director) have launched The Constellation Project. The Constellation Project — a collaboration between the Harvard Divinity School\, the Planetary Health Alliance\, and the Center for the Study of World Religions—explores the spiritual crisis that underlies the ecological and public health crises associated with destruction of Earth’s natural systems. How do we share news stories about our relationship to each other and the natural world that could help set us on a different path? The Constellation Project aims to feature faith leaders bringing science into their sermons; scientists giving ‘reverence for life’ alongside their analyses; and scholars and students finding a place for their spiritual life. \nThis series is a Constellation Project in partnership with the Center of the Study of World Religions\, Religion & Public Life\, and The Planetary Health Alliance. Brian Kirbis of Theasophia Teas will open each conversation with Tea. Each conversation will begin at 7:00 p.m. EST and end at 8:30 p.m. virtually conducted by Terry Tempest Williams\, writer-in-residence at the Harvard Divinity School. \nhttps://www.planetaryhealthalliance.org/the-constellation-project \n

SUMMARY:THE CLIMATE OF SACRED LAND PROTECTION
DESCRIPTION:Bernadette Demientieff\, Executive Director of the Gwich’in Steering Committee\, will be discussing why Sacred Land Protection matters to Indigenous communities and how her community in Alaska is standing strong to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge –Coastal Plain and the Porcupine caribou herd from becoming an oil and gas reservation. She will explain why fossil fuel companies must not be allowed to drill for oil on indigenous lands and her courageous path to “keep it in the ground” in her home ground of Alaska.  “Our Identity is non negotiable. We will never sell our culture and our traditional lifestyle for any amount of money.” Bernadette says. \nRegister here: https://harvard.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_6_EkelnJR8GiQ7wHqiaZ-w \n\nTerry Tempest Williams (author and Harvard Divinity School writer-in-residence)\, Charles M. SUMMARY:Hear the Call: Jews for a Just Green Recovery
DESCRIPTION:Senator Sinema’s Office\, 3333 E Camelback Rd\, Phoenix \nDuring Rosh Hashanah\, the Arizona Jewish community will gather in front of Senator Kyrsten Sinema’s office\, urging her to support the full 3.5 trillion dollars of the upcoming recovery package\, also known as the Reconciliation Bill. All 3.5 trillion dollars of the proposed budget—and not a penny less—is necessary for our nation to recover from the pandemic and to finally begin tackling the climate crisis. We demand that there be no cuts to climate care\, justice\, and jobs in the negotiation of this recovery package. We are calling on Sinema to stand up for her constituents by supporting the full recovery package. She must not stand in the way of our economic recovery by weakening this bill. This community gathering is organized by Arizona Jews for Justice in partnership with Dayenu:  A Jewish Call to Climate Action.

SUMMARY:SRP $1Billion Gas Plan Bad for Consumers and Environment
DESCRIPTION:Arizona’s clean energy future needs your help!  SRP\, Arizona’s second largest electric utility\, recently announced plans to spend 1 billion dollars to build 16 new gas units at its power plant in Coolidge\, Arizona. This decision could lock in decades of new fossil-fuel use\, all while Arizona sits in the bull’s eye of climate change. The decision came with almost no notice and is being rushed through at the last minute. It also appears that the utility did not seriously consider other options by\, for example\, issuing a competitive bid for alternatives like solar\, energy efficiency\, and battery storage. \nA final vote will take place on Monday\, September 13th and your voice matters more than ever. Please help speak up against this proposal by doing at least one of the following actions: \n\nJoin the protest outside SRP headquarters on Friday\, September 10th from 9-11am\, 1500 N Mill Ave\, Tempe.\nUse this toolkit to take action.\nIf you haven’t already\, sign this petition opposing the expansion of this gas plant.\nSend a postcard using an easy way to let the SRP Board that customers and others oppose this plan\, created by our friends at Vote Solar.\nCheck out more information on why this is a bad plan\, by reading Paul Hirt’s op-ed in the Arizona Capitol Times.\n\n

SUMMARY:Current Revolution: Nation in Transition
DESCRIPTION:“The shift to clean energy and electric vehicles is already happening-and it’s happening faster than anyone expected. Now our task is to manage the transition to ensure it’s both just and sustainable.” \n– Paul Hirt\, Emeritus Professor of Environmental History and Sustainability\, Arizona State University\n \nE2 invites you to a national webinar featuring the American Resilience Project’s latest work\, Current Revolution: Nation in Transition\, how the transition to renewable energy is both a blessing and a curse for communities living under the weight of environmental and health impacts of a coal fired power plant that provides the best jobs in the district. \nThe 30-minute film documents the closing of the Navajo Generating Station and examines how we\, as a nation\, can transition from fossil fuels to clean energy in a way that builds resilience and new opportunities for the communities and workers affected by the energy transition. \nDuring the webinar discussion\, we will highlight the importance of developing clean energy jobs and how the American Jobs Plan can support the Navajo nation\, Arizona\, and rural America. \nE2 Co-founder Nicole Lederer will moderate a discussion with Representative O’Halleran (AZ-1)\, filmmaker Roger Sorkin\, and Suzanne Singer & Edward Dee\, clean energy leaders in the Navajo community. \nUpon registering for the webinar you will receive a link to view the film in advance (we will not show the full movie in the webinar). \nThis webinar will be simultaneously translated into Spanish\, for those who choose.

SUMMARY:Sustaining Soil and Souls: Stories of Food and Faith
DESCRIPTION:The easiest way to enjoy food without gaining weight is to savor great stories about food.  Food has been a staple subject in as many cultures as there are cuisines. Join us as we hear storytellers from a variety of cultures and faith traditions tell stories about nourishing food that sustains both the soil and our souls.  \n“To live\, we must daily break the body and shed the blood of Creation.  When we do this knowingly\, lovingly\, skillfully\, reverently\, it is a sacrament.  When we do it ignorantly\, greedily\, clumsily\, destructively\, it is a desecration.  In such desecration we condemn ourselves to spiritual and moral loneliness\, and others to want.”  -Wendell Berry.  \nRegister here in advance for this meeting. Click here to hear a sample story.
