SUMMARY:"Fire and Ice" Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:From the Gamo Highlands of Ethiopia to the ANdes of Peru\, indigenous communities protect their sacre lands from development\, competing religions and climate change. \nPart III of a four-part series. \nIndigenous communities around the world and in the U.S. resist threats to their sacred places—the original protected lands—in a growing movement to defend human rights and restore the environment. \nIn this four-part documentary series\, native people share ecological wisdom and spiritual reverence while battling a utilitarian view of land in the form of government and megaprojects\, consumer culture\, and resource extraction as well as competing religions and climate change. \n  \nSponsored by our community partner\, Arizona Faith Network.”

SUMMARY:Self-Care for the Activist Soul
DESCRIPTION:Despite deep passion for ecological activism\, many of us working to address climate change and other ecological issues often face burn out. \nThis 2 hour workshop will draw on Buddhist mindfulness and other spiritual practices in order to bring healing to our souls and energy to our activism. \nThis is an interfaith gathering; people of all faith traditions and no faith tradition are welcome to attend. The only requirement is that you perceive climate change to be a matter of spiritual and/or religious importance. \nWe join together in a spirit of open-heartedness\, and a shared sense of concern for planetary well-being\, recognizing that ecological instability threatens all beings on earth. \nRSVP via Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/730106520475108/ \nSnacks will be provided.

SUMMARY:Phoenix With Standing Rock - #NoDAPL Day of Action
DESCRIPTION:The movement to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline is growing stronger by the day\, and it’s time for all of us to rise up and play a role in this fight – no matter where we live. \nJoin Renetto-Mario Etsitty and Stacey Champion on Tuesday\, September 13 for a solidarity action and rally at Steele Indian School Park (use the Central Ave. entrance to park across from George and Dragon) at 4:00 PM calling on President Obama to instruct the Army Corps of Engineers to revoke the permits for this dirty oil pipeline. We will line the sidewalks with our bodies\, signs & voices on the NE corner of Central Ave. & Indian School Rd. from 4 – 5 PM\, then will march up Central Avenue together and into the park to hear from Native speakers who will also address local issues surrounding water and desecration of sacred land\, followed by a drum circle. Those joining us with small children are welcome to gather in the park for the first hour for safety issues as there is a lot of traffic at this time. \nBy gathering at Steele Indian School Park\, we hope to call attention to the brave water and land protectors at Standing Rock and encourage the Army Corps of Engineers\, City\, County & State elected leaders in Arizona and the President of the United States to take a stand against greed and dirty energy which puts our greatest natural resource- WATER – at risk for generations to come. \nLet us know you’re coming — sign up on this page to receive action updates. \nPlease bring art and banners — and be sure to share on social media with #NoDAPL.
